Heart of St Ives - a beautifully restored and updated 3 double bedroom fisherman's cottage with 2 bathrooms, minutes from beaches in the Downalong conservation area (old town) in what is regarded as one of the  prettiest cobbled streets in St Ives.

Originally a fisherman's cottage Artist Cottage retains the charm, authenticity and integrity of its rich history - the cottage has been favoured by artists over the years. With 2 separate entrances -a set of granite steps lead up to the first floor and at street level a stable door entrance leads to the former net store. The  kitchen on the first floor has lovely roofscape views to the harbour beyond through a sash window with a window seat and old wooden shutters. Steps from the kitchen lead up to a light-filled living area with contemporary bi-fold doors opening on to a glass balcony and private walled courtyard with seating and tropical planting.

This cottage has a unique character with the internal spaces complimented with a mixture of antique, vintage and contemporary furniture. The attention to detail and the use of high quality fittings and appliances throughout the property result in the space feeling more like a home than  a holiday cottage.

ACCOMMODATION

MASTER BEDROOM

The master bedroom has a king-sized teak four poster  bed, all white high quality bed linen and pure silk quilt.  Luxury pocket sprung mattress. Wide planked oak flooring and original white painted beams. Teak bedside units with lamps, cupboard storage and leather armchair. Wall mounted mirror. Access to courtyard through "stable" style  door, ipod docking system.

BEDROOM 2

King sized bed with oak headboard. All white high quality bed linen and pure silk quilt.  Luxury pocket sprung mattress. Original dark wood flooring.  Sash window with window seat with pretty roofscape views. Bedside units and touch dim wall lighting. Writing desk with oak stickback chair. Bookshelf and lamp. Wall mirror.

BEDROOM 3

Situated downstairs in what was originally a pilchard pressing room and net store, is a spacious bedroom with 2 single "ziplock"beds with oak headboards which can be joined to form a king-sized double bed on request. Luxury pocket sprung mattress, all white high quality bed linen. Bedside units and  lamps. Small dressing  table , wicker armchair, natural sisal flooring  and window with alcove and wooden shutters. Cupboard storage.

KITCHEN

The front door opens onto the kitchen which has the original wide-planked wooden flooring. Bespoke kitchen units with a grey quartz worktop and  integrated Franke sink and tap.  Built in appliances: Bosch double oven, Samsung hob, Smeg extractor hood, Bosch built-under fridge and dishwasher. There is also a Gaggia coffee machine, Dualit toaster and microwave. Teak dining table and chairs. Window seat with pretty old wooden shutters and original glass window panes in the sash window  which looks out over the rooftops and to the street below. A well equipped "cook's kitchen" with a comprehensive selection of pans, tableware, cutlery, glasses and kitchen tools.

LIVING ROOM

A small bespoke handmade staircase  leads from the kitchen directly up to the large living area giving both spaces an "open-plan" feel. The living area is a light-filled space with solid wood oak wide-planked flooring, 2 upholstered sofas and  halogen track lighting and lamps. Chinese antique coffee table, wall-mounted HDTV and DVD and Bose bluetooth sound system. A wall of glass bi-fold doors opens directly on to the glass and teak balcony and decked area. These can be fixed in an open position to enjoy the extended outer space of the balcony in sunny weather. There is a small built in store on the terrace which houses a set of teak garden chairs with cushion seats. A selection of books and magazines are provided for you during your stay. There is a bespoke spiral staircase which leads to the floor below.

SHOWER WET ROOM

Adjacent to Bedroom 2. Walk in shower with glass panel, slate floor tiles and limestone wall tiles.  Hans Grohe  Raindance shower with  frosted glass panel above with integrated LED lighting system. Limestone round basin, white toilet, shaver point. Heated stainless steel towel rail.

BATHROOM

Situated on the lower floor. Tiled bathroom with all white bath, toilet and pedestal sink. Heated stainless steel towel rail. Wall mounted mirror.

UTILITY ROOM

Situated on  lower floor. Bosch  Washing machine, freezer, ironing board and iron.

TOP ROOM

Situated on the top floor accessed via a bespoke oak staircase is a room in the eaves with roof windows looking out across the roof tops. With sisal flooring and large cushions this is a great place for older children to enjoy their own "den-like space", with a toy chest, puzzles and a selection of children's books.

GARDEN TERRACE

Private enclosed courtyard garden with lower gated entrance. The courtyard has a mature Yucca tree in the centre and planted terracotta pots including a lemon tree, agapanthus, lavendar, choisya and nagnolia. There is a private hot outside shower, which can be reached through the side entrance when returning from the beach. There are also steps leading to the lower bedroom entrance. The balcony is accessed from the living room upstairs. Surfboards can be stored underneath the balcony.

LOCATION & ACCESS

Situated  on one of the prettiest cobbled streets in the very heart of the old town (Downalong) in the Conservation Area perfectly situated midway between the beaches and shops, galleries and restaurants.

Artist Cottage is in a quiet peaceful street tucked away behind "The Digey" a  cobbled street lined with old fisherman's cottages which links Porthmeor Beach (Tate) to the harbour front and beach.

Porthmeor beach and the harbour area and beach are literally a short 2 minute stroll away.

ACCESS

Artist Cottage has two entrances - the lower entrance is on Virgin Street (street level) via a stable type door with no steps which leads into a lobby and then into the lower twin bedroom. This entrance is ideal for unloading suitcases and bags.

There are a flight of granite steps with a metal handrail which leads to the front door, which opens out into the kitchen.

There is also a side passage way which leads to a gate opening into the lower back terrace with outdoor shower, which  our guests can enjoy when returning from the beach or surfing.

Artist Cottage is a perfect choice for families, with the flowing spaces and additional bathroom making for a relaxed and comfortable  house.

The location is great for spending time around the town and beaches - the surfing beach and Tate are a 5 minute walk away with restaurants and cafes literally round the corner.

CAR PARKING: The nearest car park is Barnoon  Car Park which is just minutes away from the cottage. Weekly parking tickets can be purchased on arrival for around  £35. There are also several other town car parks, but this is the most convenient for the cottage.

CHECK-IN TIMES

ARTIST COTTAGE is available from 1600 on the day of arrival to 10 am the day of departure. Weekly breaks usually run from Friday to Friday.

We provide a "meet and greet" service.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Follow the A30 to St Ives, As you approach the town you will reach a Tesco store with a roundabout. Go straight ahead down the hill towards the town. When you see the Harbour Hotel on your right the road forks. Take the left fork and follow the road as it weaves its way up a hill and around a residential area towards the Leisure Centre. Go past the Leisure Centre until you reach 2 mini roundabouts. Take the first exit then the second exit and follow road signs marked Tate Gallery. Follow this road as it weaves around another residential area. When you pass Ayr Store shop on your left the road forks sharply to the left (this takes you to the Tate and Porthmeor Beach). Do not turn left but follow the right fork past Barnoon Cemetry to Barnoon Car Park 50 metres away. This is the most convenient car park and is a 3 minute walk away from ARTIST COTTAGE.
